Good morning, everyone.
December 13th of 1937 is a date that all Chinese people will never forget. 84 years ago, Japanese troops captured Nanjing, then former China’s capital, and embarked on more than 40 days of slaughter. This tragedy was known as “Nanjing Massacre”, which left a deep psychological scar on the Chinese for generations to come.
In February 2014, Dec 13th was designated as National Memorial Day for the victims of Nanjing Massacre. Nowadays, we are enjoying the peace and wealth arising from the nation’s rapid development and modernization. However, we should not and would not forget we get this stable and safe living environment with the sacrifice of our respectful martyrs. Without a strong army and a powerful state, Chinese people would have never stood up. We should turn the lessons of humiliation into the motive for the nation’s rejuvenation.
As ASJ students, we should memorize the history and our heroes, learning lessons from the war. In the process of our growth, we must put character training first, focus on the ability improvement, and aim at all-round development, devoting ourselves to growing into qualified builders and reliable successors of our country, contributing to the rejuvenation and reunification of our nation as well as the world peace.
This the end of my speech, thank you.
