Distinguished teachers and fellow students, good morning. Today I am going to talk about the rejuvenation of the civilized country.
China, an ancient country boosting 5000 years’ history, is the land of courtesy and propriety. Mr Xun said “One can’t be relied on without courtesy; A person can’t thrive without behaving properly; Success can’t attained without propriety; Country can’t gain peace without ceremony.” Civilization and courtesy is the basis of life and study as well as the solid foundation for our future development.
Courtesy is the outward representation of a person, an ethnic group as well as a country’s culture and moral standard. When we show elegance and propriety, we will make others fell comfortable and earn more confidence in terms of interpersonal relationship. Mr Zhouen lai is the role model for us in terms of courtesy. As the Premier of the country , he was so humble and polite :He would receive the cup of tea with two hands from the waiter, nodding to show gratification; He would ask the driver to drive politely and allow guests to go first. When Premier Zhou passed away, the foreign press reported: “The whole world saluted to him and no one disagreed with that which was so rare.” Indeed, this is the power of courtesy.
From the end of the Qing dynasty till now, we have gained rapid economic development. However, we sometimes regretfully discover that our moral standard stuck. There is countless beautiful scenery in China that we are proud of as well as the reputation of “Civilized country”. Now, extraordinary scenery exists while the courtesy fades away.
As a student in ASJ, can you proudly declare that you are a civilized person? Can you promise to allow younger students to get the breakfast first in the dining hall in the morning? Or did you say hello to your teachers proactively on the way to school? Did you say thank you when accept assistance? Did you respect roommate’s habit when the sleeping time comes? If you can do all of the above, you can proudly declare:” I am a civilized person.”
The progress of the society includes not only the development of the economy and the technology, but also the high moral standard which requires us to reestablish a new standard of courtesy based on the good tradition. Only by doing so can China gain both economic development as well as enjoy the reputation of a “Civilized country.”
All teachers and students, let us work together to promote courtesy and propriety in order to build up an elite school with civilization and high moral standard.
This the end of my speech, thank you.
