Teachers gathered together for the effective education seminar, and the host of the meeting Ms. Lisa shared two favourite learner profiles which were open-minded and reflective respectively. She elaborated that the effects of these two goals for professional development.
Teachers believed that appropriate teaching strategies and collaboration would improve teaching skills and career well-being. They followed the lines of inquiry similar to how students complete research, finding the aspects that they are interested or skilled in. Then teachers are grouped according to these aspects.
In PYP, teachers’ activities in groups are as vivid as students’. The people who are expert in an area would advise others. Moreover, teachers who signed up for critical friends would pair up for learning and growing. Those amazing critical friends should observer and reflect the classes each other, and set up shared goal by SMART principles.
After that, Miss Tracy shared a fantastic example goal-setting in Chinese reading referring to SMART principles. First, the reading target should be specific, such as building reading environment, setting up assessment tools and refection requirements. Meanwhile, reading goals should be measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. The teachers believe that no matter goal setting or teaching, every step should be rigorous as well as scientific.
After that Miss Angela shared the feeling and experience on founding an “Amazing critical friend". She indicated that teachers should prioritize the lists to work effectively and share with students. Besides, reading is essential everyday. She made an agreement at exchanging the reading digest with groupmates regularly.
