On November 3rd, Huang Ningsheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Director of Guangdong Provincial United Front Work Department, visited the Affiliated School of Jinan University for Hong Kong and Macao Students for research and guidance.
Huang Ningsheng and the accompanying party first visited the campus, including the library, gymnasium, dormitory, cafeteria, feature classrooms, middle school and primary school departments. They asked detailed questions and learned about the school's teaching development since the beginning of the school year, the student's learning and living condition, and made on-site observations of the ongoing classes. Executive Director Lucas Deng, Vice Director Dong Xuyuan, Chief Principal Cheung King Leung, Executive Principal Jessica Feng and other school officials explained and answered questions of the guests.
After the campus visit, the guests moved to the school conference room for a meeting. Executive Principal Jessica Feng firstly invited the guests to watch a video of ASJ’s history, reviewing the major events since the school's launch event on March 21st. She also gave a brief introduction on the school's faculty and student numbers.
Chief Principal Cheung King Leung gave a keynote speech on “Education in the Greater Bay Area at ASJ.” Chief Principal Cheung introduced that Affiliated School of JNU For Hong Kong and Macao Students was founded under the guidance of the spirit of national policies such as the Outline Development Plan of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and The Fourteenth Five-Year Plan of National Economic and Social Development, responding to the national policy on the Greater Bay Area and the future development trend. ASJ is characterized by patriotic education, physical education, scientific education, language education, environmental education. Taking patriotic education as the core, ASJ is committed to founding an international school with Chinese characteristics and cultivating outstanding young students who“ love the motherland, intelligent in technical creation, physically healthy as professional athletes, knowledgeable in various languages and devote to serve the society.”
Then, Executive Director Lucas Deng, Vice Director Dong Xuyuan delivered speeches respectively. Executive Director Lucas Deng expressed sincere gratitude to Guangdong Provincial United Front Work Department, Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau for their guidance, support and help during the preparation and founding of ASJ. He indicated that the Affiliated School for Hong Kong and Macao Students will continue to work with Jinan University to build international benchmark institutions of high standards and high quality with strict requirements.
Party Secretary of Jinan University Lin Rupeng hoped that the Affiliated School for Hong Kong and Macao Students could inherit the excellent tradition of Jinan University to run schools, especially the tradition of patriotism to teach "four types of histories"properly. ASJ shall make in-depth exploration in the teacher cultivation, curriculum and connection with university educational resources to enable the school to become a pioneer among international education industry.
Huang Ningsheng, made a concluding remark. He believed that the establishment of the Affiliated School for Hong Kong and Macao Students was in line with the relevant policy of the national development plan for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He gave a positive appraisal on the vision, characteristics and national education courses of ASJ. He encouraged the operation team to remain true to the original aspiration and explore the integration of basic education, the "communication, integration and convergence" of young people in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and constantly serve the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
In the interaction session with teacher representatives, Huang Ningsheng, and his accompanying party listened carefully to the speeches of Hong Kong teacher representatives Maco Ho and Tracy Lau, and Mainland teacher representative Jason Zhou. Huang and other staff answered questions of the teachers, and made a detailed interpretation of relevant national and provincial policies on education integration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Members of Guangdong Provincial United Front Work Department, Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, Guangzhou Municipal United Front Work Department and Jinan University accompanied the visit. Heads of relevant departments of the school attended the meeting and discussion.
